The Foundation for Professional Development (FPD) is an indigenous South African organisation established in 1997 by the South African Medical Association (SAMA). FPD is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as a Private Institution of Higher Education in terms of Section 54(1) (c) of the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Act No. 101 of 1997), Regulation 16(4) (a) of the Regulations for Registration of Private Higher Education Institutions to provide a number of approved higher education programmes (Registration Certificate number: 2002/HE07/013). FPD is also an accredited service provider for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) by the Medical and Dental Professions Board of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). FPD has experience in working in 45 countries in Africa and has, to date, trained more than 520,000 students across all its programmes.
