To Submit an Abstract

The deadline for abstract submissions is 18 July 2025 – It is important to submit your abstract before the deadline; any abstracts received after the deadline will not be taken into consideration. The Programme Committee is committed to finalizing the Conference Programme by July 2025, so attendees will have ample time to plan their participation. 

You are invited to submit an abstract for consideration by the Scientific Programme Committee to present at the 2nd SA Mental Health Conference. The conference will take place at the Emperors Palace, Johannesburg from 28 – 29 October 2025. 

On the portal, you will be able to submit the following:

  • Research- based presentations (oral or poster)
  • Best practice/implementation presentations (oral or poster)

Structure of the presentation types:
Follow these structures to populate the content for your selected presentation.

  1. Research-based Presentations (oral or poster): Please select the poster option if you do not want to be considered for an oral presentation (Oral presentations are typically between 10 – 15 minutes).

    Project Scalability: To scale the described project/activity described to a district /regional/national level, what are the requirements? (New or amended policies, operations, human resources, and financial implications)

Conference theme and tracks

The theme of the conference isFrom Evidence to Action”.

Abstracts will be reviewed according to the following tracks:

Track 1:    Mental health and physical wellbeing.

Track 2:    Community Mental Health and Vulnerable Populations.

Track 3:    Health Systems, Policy, and Implementation of Evidence-based Interventions.

Track 4:    Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

Track 5:    Emerging issues in mental health

Please note:

  • Abstracts can only be submitted electronically through the 2nd SA Mental Health Conference website. Abstracts submitted to the Conference Secretariat directly through any other means will not be accepted for review.
  • A confirmation email will be sent to you automatically when you submit an abstract. 
  • Please check your spam folder if you have not received confirmation that your abstract has been received.
  • All abstracts will be forwarded to the Abstract Review Committee for review. Notifications regarding status will be sent once the review process is complete.
  • Notices of acceptance or rejection of the abstract will be sent to the primary author, with reviewer comments where applicable.
  • Oral presentation- The presenting author is required to register.
  • Poster presentation- The presenting author is required to register

Submission Specification

  • Number of words not more than 300 words in total.
  • No graphic images, tables, graphs, or columns should be submitted with your abstract/presentation.
  • Draft your abstract in text format in MS Word or a similar programme  and copy and paste. Arial font size 10 is advised.
